What is Chemistry?
Chemistry is the branch of Science which deals with the study of matter, its composition and properties.
Importance of Chemistry
Chemistry is very important, it is present everywhere. When we wake up in the morning, first of all, brush the teeth, tooth paste and brush both are made up chemicals. We drink water, it is chemical molecule (H2O). We take breakfast, bread is made up of carbohydrates, tea contain a chemical namely caffeine. Even our body is made up of chemical compounds. We wear clothes, shoes, cosmetics; all are made up chemical compounds. We use transport to go for work, vehicles are made up different metals, plastic and fuels are also chemical compounds. There are wide range of applications of Chemistry in industries; glass, cement, paper, textile, leather, dyes, paints, pigments, petroleum, sugar, plastics, pharmaceuticals.
Branches of Chemistry
Mainly, there are five branches of Chemistry:
Organic Chemistry
Organic Chemistry is the study of structure, properties, composition and reactions of hydrocarbons and their derivatives.
Inorganic Chemistry
Inorganic Chemistry is the study of properties and behavior of inorganic compounds which includes minerals, metals and organometallic compounds.
Analytical Chemistry
Analytical chemistry is the branch of chemistry which deals with the characterization and composition of matter, both qualitatively and quantitatively.
Physical Chemistry
It is the branch of chemistry which is concerned with the relations between the physical properties of substances and their chemical composition and transformations.
Biochemistry
It is the area of chemistry which describes the chemical processes of living organisms. It explains the structure and functions of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids.
